This month’s recipient of the Mercer Savings Bank Giving Mission donation is the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership of Darke County. This organization is dedicated to working with local communities to eliminate poverty while promoting personal independence and self-sufficiency.
To achieve this, the organization offers numerous programs to help those with lower incomes achieve financial stability. Those seeking assistance can complete applications for programs such as rental assistance, eviction prevention, transportation services, water and utility assistance, as well as legal help through their Legal Clinic. The Legal Clinic offers aid to those seeking to reinstate their driver’s license, navigate a criminal record issues, or aid in a tenant dispute.
“We pride ourselves in helping low income families,” says Julie Lecklinder, Director of Miami Valley Community Action Partnership of Darke County. “We operate an emergency homeless shelter. We also have what’s called a homeless crisis response program where we can help homeless individuals or families with their first month’s rent and deposit.”
While each regional division of the organization offers a different mix of programs, those seeking aid can call (937) 341-5000 or email info@capdayton.org to see what type of assistance is available in their area.
Donations like the one from Mercer Savings Bank go directly toward supporting this organization’s programs, such as buying much-needed supplies for their three-bedroom homeless shelter to keep it running.
“I like to help people,” says Lecklinder, “to see people in need and be able to help them succeed and better themselves. Some people don’t know how to ask for help, or they’re too embarrassed to ask for help, or they don’t know what’s out there. We want to get the word out to help these people.”
