This month’s recipient of the Mercer Savings Bank Giving Mission donation is Lots for Soldiers, a non-profit organization whose mission is driven by the belief that the men and women who defend the United States deserve our gratitude.
Founded in 2014, the organization began by donating residential lots to veterans, seeking to bring together community resources to assist veterans in building a home at a reduced cost
Today, they have expanded their mission to include “blessings” of donations and other forms of assistance to veterans in need. These blessings may include much-needed appliances, repairs and ramp building on existing homes, or a helping hand.
Board member Mary Rosengarten got involved with the organization when she and her husband Tim
were asked to donate stone for a project through their company, Amcorp Construction, Inc. of Celina. “Of course we agreed!” Mary says. Later, when she was approached by the organization to be on the board, she accepted.
In a 2017 interview, Tim Rosengarten said he was pleased to assist the Lots for Soldiers mission because helping veterans is a passion of his. It’s also why his company makes hiring veterans a top priority. He sees this as a way of paying it forward. “I’m a vet. I want to help other veterans because I know what it’s like coming out of the military, not knowing what to do, not having a direction. And giving them the opportunity to start off in the civilian world—that’s what I want to do. That right there is my passion.”
“Donations like the one from Mercer Savings Bank are vital to everything we do,” Mary says. 100% of donations go towards projects they’re working on for local veterans. All of the board members are volunteers who have graciously donated their time to the organization.
The most recent project coordinated by Lots for Soldiers is a home for a local couple, one of whom is a veteran, which will be completed in August. True to their commitment to bring together members of the local community, the project is being completed in partnership with Tristar Career Compact, another Mercer Savings Bank Giving Mission recipient.
These local, community-minded organizations and individuals truly demonstrate the importance and impact of what can be achieved with a shared mission.
