This month’s Mercer Savings Bank Giving Mission recipient is the Greenville Business and Professional Women (BPW) club.
With community service, scholarships, and fellowship, BPW supports women and girls throughout Darke County and beyond.
Business and Professional Women Community Involvement
The Greenville BPW, the largest club chapter in Ohio, is actively involved in service opportunities that impact Greenville and beyond.
One of the biggest is their annual scholarship award. For 2022, the club awarded eight $1,000 scholarships to graduating female students in Darke County.
They also participate in various activities throughout the area, from planting flowers in downtown Greenville to sponsoring the Women in STEM 2D event.
This past year, they supported the Christmas dinner at St. Clair Manor, helping to provide gifts for a family of three children in need.
It’s the first year as president for Maria Moore, who said she’s made a few changes to the group to help highlight local businesses and gain visibility.
“It helps us because we get our name out as trying to help support the community, which we are, and it helps the local business because their name gets in the paper. It’s a win-win for all of us,” said Moore.
Joining BPW
BPW is open to all women, whether they’re a resident of Darke County or not — some members live in Piqua, Sidney, and Celina. Dues are $40 per year.
Moore initially joined BPW as a way to network, but she soon found that her passion for service went further than that.
“I decided this is actually something that I want to do,” she said. “It’s a real passion to help young ladies and women just feel empowered…and it’s helped so many people. I’ve also met more people and community leaders. So for me, it’s been a huge bonus both personally and professionally.”
Supporting BPW
As this month’s Giving Mission recipient, BPW will set aside the funds to go directly toward next year’s scholarship awards.
Those wishing to support BPW can reach out in a variety of ways. The group hosts several fundraising events throughout the year, such as their ladies’ night out and annual summer BBQ chicken dinner.
