Youth & Student Accounts

Bank Account Options Just for Kids and Teens

Why should my student open a bank account?

It’s never too early to begin learning the basics of saving, budgeting and working with a checking or savings account. A good financial education is just as critical as your student’s subjects in school. And students who grasp these important economic principles early in life are poised for a good start as they begin their own journeys.

Steps to Open a Youth & Student Account

How do I open an account for my child or grandchild?

Parents of infants and toddlers generally set up custodial savings accounts, meaning the money belongs to the child, but the parent or guardian is required to sign for withdrawals. Once a child reaches an age where he or she can sign his or her own name, they are welcome to have a savings account of their own. Checking accounts can be set up as well for children as young as 14 who may be starting a first job or wanting a debit card. Checking accounts for minors require a parent or guardian to help keep track of saving and spending. Once you reach the age of 18, you are free to have a checking account on your own.

What documents should I bring to account opening? OR What documents are required to open an account?

If you are under the age of 16, we just need to know your social security number. If you are 16 or older, please bring a valid picture ID, which includes a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
